The Trains in Sri Lanka
Having a road trip in Sri Lanka by train is an amazing and unique experience. There are 3 classes in the trains for the long distance trips. The first class, exists only to several destinations. In this department you can enjoy a luxury ride with air conditioning and high graded facilities. The second class has a reasonable facilities and you can buy a comfortable sit. The third class however, is less reasonable, it does not have a maximum capacity, and that is why it is extremely crowded. The most crowded train is mostly the one going to Colombo and back. There is one special train which allows an amazing experience, the train takes you from Colombo to Badulha. The train it self is half transparent and it allows you to enjoy the green breath taking view of the great jungles and tea fields spending all over the landscape. The main train station in Colombo is also called “Port”, there you can enjoy the traditional local food and more merchandise the local merchants offer. At the entrance of the train station you can find the Ministry of Tourism of Sri Lanka, which will gladly help and advise you how and where you should continue on next.
One most important thing is to try to avoid any train trips during national holidays, since the trains are over crowded then usual and it is extremely un pleasant to ride along.
